The Cycle of Life Model for the Mushkegowuk Territory notes February as
the coldest month of the year which is symbolized by the Greatest of
the Moons. February signals the end of the Omushkegowuk Cree seasonal
cycle of life and the promise of new beginnings. The Omushkego
people along with all the creatures whether on land, water or air
anticipate the passing of the long winter, and the arrival of the Eagle
Moon in March. March signals the beginning of a new cycle of life.
The
Great Moon Gathering is an annual educational conference that brings
together educators from all of the eight Omushkego Education Authorities
and surrounding communities to engage in rich professional development,
share resources and ideas with one another. Hosted by Fort Albany First Nation. This year's theme is"The Spirit Voice... Lessons from the Land".
This
year's event will take place in Fort Albany, Ontario on February 16 & 17, 2012. Life long educators gather together in celebration of the last
of the Great Moons in this cycle of life. We have traveled
great distances from all directions to meet old friends, reminisce
about family and loved ones, share ideas, resources and discover
new relationships. This conference provides an opportunity
for learning, visiting, sharing in both giving and receiving.
A time for reflection, discussion, laughter, fun and personal
renewal. A time to acknowledge the wisdom of generations past,
of traditions, values, and beliefs. A time to share new discoveries
and lessons of yesteryear and realize that opportunities of
rebirth and renewal lay ahead. It is a time of anticipation,
toward resurgence of new life, ideas, hopes and dreams of
a brighter future.
On behalf of the
Mushkegowuk Tribal Council, Omushkego Education is pleased to present
the 2012 Great Moon Gathering.
